Recently, there has been an upward trend in the sales rate of electric cars in our country, but Greece has been relatively behind in the share that electric cars have occupied abroad for several years.
A survey of electric car owners in 18 countries with more than 23,000 respondents found that 921% of them would choose an electric car as their next car. Of these 921%, only 11% would return to a petrol or diesel internal combustion car, while 41% would choose a plug-in hybrid. It was found that a factor that significantly influenced the results of the survey was the infrastructure of each country in charging stations.
Electric cars outperform conventional cars in the following areas:
- In terms of usage costs. Electric cars have minimal maintenance costs compared to conventional cars. The cost of electricity, especially when the owner has the ability to charge the car on his own infrastructure, is negligible compared to the cost of gasoline or diesel. In the event that this charging option is not available through our own infrastructure, with current battery technology and public charging infrastructure, purchasing an electric car makes it difficult for its user.
- Speed. Electric cars excel in that their engines deliver their maximum power immediately and steadily, making them faster than conventional cars.
- Technology they have. They usually outperform conventional ones because they are equipped with many safety systems and other auxiliary systems that are appreciated by their users.
- Their ecological footprint. Ultimately, cars are definitely much more environmentally friendly while being quieter, making traveling with them more relaxing.
This research also showed that the idea of a long trip by electric car certainly requires more planning, especially at times with a poor charging network.
There have been many reports of a decline in the popularity of electric cars, especially in countries where they have had a significant market share for many years. However, the number of electric vehicles purchased in 2024 in most markets is up compared to previous years.
