Which vehicles are defined as Historic (Antiques)?;

Before proceeding with the purchasing process, it is important to clarify which vehicles can legally be classified as historic.

According to international and Greek legislation, as historic cars (antique) Vehicles that meet the following basic conditions are characterized:

  1. They have completed at least 30 years from their year of manufacture or the date of their first registration.

  2. They are kept in their original state without substantial modifications to their technical characteristics (engine, body, etc.).

  3. They are certified by the official competent bodies.

Conditions for free movement of historic cars.

They are allowed to circulate on the small ring road while paying traffic fees, with the exception of vehicles over 45 years old and motor vehicles of historical interest that have not been built for the transport of passengers.

  1. In order to be able to circulate freely, historic cars must undergo an annual MOT and be insured.
  2. Historic cars will have to pay traffic fees ranging from 50 to 200 euros, while the corresponding motorcycles will have to pay from 25 to 50 euros. The amount of the fees is set according to the following:
  • Passenger cars of historical interest with an engine capacity of up to 999 cubic centimeters will pay a traffic tax of 50 euros.
  • Passenger cars of historical interest with a displacement of 1,000 cubic centimeters to 1,999 cubic centimeters will pay a traffic tax of 100 euros.
  • Passenger cars of historical interest with an engine capacity of over 2,000 cubic centimeters will pay a traffic fee of 200 euros.
  • Motorcycles of historical interest with a displacement of up to 250 cubic centimeters will pay a traffic fee of 25 euros.
  • Motorcycles of historical interest with a displacement of over 250 cubic centimeters will pay a traffic tax of 50 euros. 

Cars over 45 years old and motor vehicles over 45 years old that are not built for the transport of passengers are exempt from paying traffic fees.

In case of violations of the K.O.K., the prescribed sanctions and administrative fines that apply to all vehicles are imposed. Violation of the provisions on compulsory insurance imposes fines and sanctions as well as, as the case may be, the permanent removal of the registration data or removal of the registration data for one year and an administrative fine of 300 euros.
