Introduction of hybrid car
Hybrid cars have already been on the market for over 20 years, with the Toyota Prius being the first to do so. CarForYou has been importing used and new hybrid cars since its first years of operation in 2007, and has gained expertise in both selecting the right car and the appropriate checks that should be carried out before purchasing it, and of course, all the procedures required to clear customs and issue the Greek registration certificate.
Why would someone decide to buy a hybrid car?
- Tax benefits where hybrid cars are charged half the registration fee compared to a simple internal combustion car.
- Fuel economy with hybrid cars: they recover energy and store it in their batteries and then provide it for the movement of the car, thus achieving economy.
- Reduced emissions resulting in lower road tax payments.
- Better performance with the horsepower of the electric motor added to the horsepower of the thermal engine.
- Post-political value where hybrid cars show increased demand and therefore better resale.
Why would someone decide to import a hybrid car from abroad?
- Economic benefit: The European market often has better prices compared to the Greek market prices, including legal costs.
- Quality of car condition: in general we see cars whose condition is much better than the condition of their Greek counterparts due to the condition of the road network but also, more generally, the culture regarding car maintenance.
- More choices: of course we are talking about much larger markets than ours, so someone can find exactly what they are looking for.
HYBRID CAR CATEGORIES
- Mild Hybrid (Mild Hybrid or MHEV):
Mild hybrid cars have a small electric motor that works in support of the internal combustion engine. The power of this electric motor is not capable of driving the car autonomously electrically and offers a small reduction in fuel consumption of the order of 10 – 15 %
- Full Hybrid (Full Hybrid or HEV):
They have a larger battery capacity and a more powerful electric motor than mild hybrids. This gives them the ability to drive the car autonomously and electrically, offering significant fuel savings of up to 40 %.
- Finally, there are hybrid cars that are essentially electric but also have a thermal engine whose role is to charge their battery and not to move the car, such an example is the BMW i3 REX as well as the OPEL Ampera.
The list of hybrid cars is now very long, almost all companies produce hybrid cars and the general trend is to use at least a small electric motor in all, mainly larger, models with the aim of better economy and a better ecological footprint compared to purely thermal ones.
