Introduction of hybrid car

At CarForYou we have been importing hybrid cars since our first years of operation in 2007. We have gained expertise in both choosing the right car and the additional controls which should be done before this is purchased.

Hybrid cars have already been on the market for more than 25 years, with the Toyota Prius being the first of them.

Is it worth buying a hybrid car?;

Yes, it is beneficial because:

  1. Hybrid cars are charged with half of classification fee compared to the simple thermal car.
  2. They save fuel. Hybrid cars store electrical energy during braking, which they release during acceleration.
  3. They have reduced emissions, resulting in lower traffic and registration fees.
  4. They achieve better performance with the horsepower of the electric motor added to the horsepower of the thermal engine.
  5. They achieve better post-political value because of all of the above.

Why would someone decide to import a hybrid car from abroad?

  1. Economic benefit: The European market often has better prices compared to the Greek market prices, including legal costs.
  2. Quality of car condition: in general we see cars whose condition is much better than the condition of their Greek counterparts due to the condition of the road network but also, more generally, the culture regarding car maintenance.
  3. More choices: of course we are talking about much larger markets than ours, so someone can find exactly what they are looking for.

HYBRID CAR CATEGORIES

  1. Mild Hybrid (Mild Hybrid or MHEV):

Mild hybrid cars have a small electric motor that works in support of the internal combustion engine. The power of this electric motor is not capable of driving the car autonomously electrically and offers a small reduction in fuel consumption of the order of 10 – 15 %

  1. Full Hybrid (Full Hybrid or FHEV):

They have a larger battery capacity and a more powerful electric motor than mild hybrids. This gives them the ability to drive the car autonomously and electrically, offering significant fuel savings of up to 40 %.

  1. Extended Range Electric Vehicles (EREV or REEV)

These cars are electric but also have a thermal engine that acts as a generator and charges its battery. Examples of such cars are: BMW i3 REX, OPEL Ampera, Mazda MX-30

The list of hybrid cars is now very long, almost all companies produce hybrid cars and the general trend is to use at least a small electric motor in all, mainly larger, models with the aim of better economy and a better ecological footprint compared to purely thermal ones.

Frequently Asked Questions FAQ

How much fuel economy do hybrid cars have compared to their equivalent internal combustion engines?;

Fuel economy depends directly on the type of hybrid technology and driving conditions, with the biggest difference being found in the city:

  • Mild Hybrid (Mild Hybrid / MHEV): They offer an average reduction in consumption close to 10% to 15%. Economy is achieved mainly through the advanced Start/Stop system and energy recovery during deceleration, relieving the internal combustion engine during stop-starts.

  • Full Hybrid (Full Hybrid / FHEV): Here the economy is booming and can reach from 30% up to and over 50% in the city. As the vehicle can drive purely electrically in traffic jams and at low speeds, consumption drops sharply compared to a corresponding premium gasoline or diesel model.

At Car For You, we analyze your daily transportation needs to guide you in choosing the ideal hybrid model from Europe, ensuring maximum depreciation and savings at the pump.

Is the factory warranty of the hybrid battery valid in Greece if the car is imported from Germany or another European country?;

Yes, the factory warranty for the hybrid system and high-voltage battery (which in most manufacturers such as Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz is 8 years or 160,000 km.) is valid in Greece as well. The cars are imported from European Union countries, the warranties are pan-European and are fully covered by the authorized networks of Greek dealerships. In addition, before each purchase, we thoroughly check the digital maintenance book of the vehicle abroad, ensuring that all the required services have been performed so that the warranty remains in full force.

How does the Retail Pre-Tax Value (RPT) affect the cost of importing a hybrid car?;

The Retail Value Before Tax (RPT) is the most critical factor in calculating customs clearance costs. For hybrid cars (Mild and Full Hybrid), the registration fee is reduced by 50%, so the low RRP of the model offers even greater tax relief. At Car For You we can calculate the total cost required to import the car you liked, free of charge. Simply contact us via contact form or by phone at 2310248295/6974310324

What are the advantages of buying a used hybrid from Germany compared to the Greek market?;

Importing a hybrid car from countries like Germany has two main advantages: the huge range of options and the quality of maintenance. Abroad, corporate fleets (leasing) are constantly being renewed, offering mild and full hybrid models with state-of-the-art equipment at very competitive prices. Furthermore, due to the strict controls and ideal conditions on European highways, these vehicles have an excellent maintenance history, with their High-Voltage system and battery having undergone much less stress.

Where can I see used foreign cars?;

The largest used car websites abroad, of course, are not only these: mobile.de  and the autoscout24.de However, navigating through thousands of ads hides pitfalls. In Car For You We undertake to filter these ads for you, communicate with dealers abroad, and guide you in choosing the right car.
